I’m Sarah, a tea-drinking, coffee-swilling scribe. Delighted to meet you.

A couple of years ago I got hooked on writing, so now I can’t go a day without. Even if it’s tiny poems, I have a need to write. I scribble down my dreams – no, not the life-goals. It does not do to dwell on them and forget to do things. The dreams I write down are my REM ones, which tend to the really weird.

Sticky notes are my friend and I have notebooks plastered with little yellow squares, on which is written a note or idea. There are many of them, plus technology’s notes. I write far less than I’d like, but I try to be happy with what I do get done.

If I’m not writing then I’m probably reading.

Nine times out of ten I don’t dare kill my darlings, lest I wind up with a pile of torn-up papers. Some days I try it anyway and think it improves things. Quitting isn’t a thing I believe in doing, unless the thing being quit is a source of unhappiness.

Creative writing is the goal: I’ve completed NaNoWriMo five times and started a sixth, so I’m always looking to improve and gain feedback for my own writings. I want to have material to publish by the end of… well, I once said end of the year but I don’t remember when that was. End of a year, then.

Here, I’ll be writing things for your perusal. Sometimes I’ll tell you about things I like, or the things that go on in the day-to-day. Other times I may be writing in German.

  1. It was for a research project report that I was going through some bench-marking data from US consumers, a few years ago. There I find a profile of a customer very interesting and went into detail of it, one of the pictures that the person had shared was of Lady Antebellum’s first album cover… that was the first day I heard about Lady A, downloaded few of their songs to know about them and am in love with their music since.

    1. That’s awesome. About six years ago, I was listening to the radio one evening and the announcer mentioned a new song by Lady Antebellum. Curious, I listened to it (it was Need You Now) and loved it. That evening I bought it on iTunes, referenced the recommendation to get another couple of songs – Our Kind of Love, and American Honey, I believe – and fell in love. And that is my Lady A love story 🙂

  4. Hi, I saw your blog on the Writing 101 Commons. Glad to see there are others out there interested in and studying Gothic literature. I started my blog this year to chart my foray into the Gothic for my Master’s thesis. There’s not much yet (since I too have the habit of dropping off the blogosphere from time to time), but I’m hoping to change that soon. Nice post 🙂 I’ll keep an eye on your blog as the challenge goes along.

      I’m actually thinking about starting a literature aspect to this blog – a weekly reading thing, maybe, and delving further into the Gothic myself. I’ll keep an eye on your blog too 🙂

    1. That’s great! Sometimes another person’s words are just the boost you need to post something for the world to see. I would probably still keep my writing to computer files and notebooks if I hadn’t been encouraged to blog.

  11. I had a friend who had a professor at Stetson University, who would say “as such” so often, that my friend, one day made a tally in pencil on her desk. Above her hash marks denoting each time the prof said, “as such,” the latter was written.
    I’m just pointing out, you said it twice.
    Nothing wrong with that.
    However, I fear that if you had used the phrase once more during your ‘About me’ section I may have started a tally. Now, I can’t contain my own curiosity, and plan to read as many of your blogs as I please to do, maybe even all of them! (It’s nearly 8 am right now, EST, and I’ve nothing to do today) nothing = you know, the usual daily routine. Mine includes doing whatever the fuck I feel like doing, and on a Monday morning. I do not feel the great remorse most people feel on Mondays as such that everyday feels like Saturday for me. Fact of the matter is, so far, I enjoy your writing, have no job, save household duties like putting away folded clothing and feeding myself, when I experience hunger.

      1. I wasn’t saying you use the phrase too much, just use your own discretion, because it’s truthfully sometimes used as filler, by people intelligent enough not to say, um, er, uhhh, blablah! You get me?
        I already enjoy your writin. Lookin forward to creeping your page for most of today, but “men make plans & god laughs”

        Feminism is ok by me, but hyperbole abound: I do shave my pits, love my man and even think for myself, lol.
        Also my joblessness has more to do with the rest of the world, than with my choice.
        It’s intereating how assumptions come to be.
        I had two low-back surgeries in September. Not cleared to go back to work, yet. I’d be working if it were up to me. I’d suffer through the physical pain until I meditated it out of existence. However during my previous conversation with the Big Cheese, at the store where I am employed, he was unabashedly insensitivery to my condition. One more injustice for me to poetically blog about. I’love bully your page later, once my brain stops it’s overflow.

      1. I used to walk away with 2-3 new ones every time I left the bookstore. I had to reduce my collection when I moved 😦 but they’re still awesome 🙂

      3. They are expensive! And finding the right size and choosing between spiral bound or soft bound. So many choices! But all the ones I couldn’t keep went to loving, appreciative homes so it wasn’t too bad.

      5. Hardcovers are my temporary, I’ve only ever been able to fill spiral bounds lol! I prefer blank paper as well, lines make my writing feel claustrophobic.

      6. For me spiral bounds are where I write drafts, rip them out and edit. I don’t know why.

        I have a certain level of fussiness that requires lines – I like seeing words tucked neatly into each line.

      7. That’s cool 🙂 I like spirals for the neatness of the ripping, I always feel bad if I have to tear something out of a hardcover. My handwriting is really messy and I can never stay in the lines lol.
