over coffee (46)

if we were having coffee,
i’d suggest a quiet cafe.
preferably, the kind that has
very low background music,
not loud noise.

this afternoon i was shopping
and standing in the queue waiting
to pay was a mess
of noise.

an aural assault,
i call it.
normally it’s manageable,
but today it was especially bad.
i’ve spent time recharging,
so here i am now.

i’d tell you about the week
i’ve had
and you’d commiserate over
lack of sleep.
seems my sleeping habits have
turned inside out.

i’ll tell you that i’m
waiting for pretty little liars
to resume airing and
break a coffee-stirrer thinking
too hard.

enough about me:
tell me about you.
