life, shaded green

we’re in
wonderland, i told you.
have told you before,
am telling you again.

you agreed; it’s close
to perfection here.
(close enough that
i can almost taste it)

sometimes wonder tastes green,
absinthe sparkling in a
poorly-selected glass.
feels lush, even,
under bare feet on summer’s days.

(it’s not enough.
never will be; i’m not
enough for you.
you’re not enough
for me.)

lush verdant morphs,
sickly now, toxic chartreuse
i wish spills forth, a river,
a litany of all that’s
wrong here.

(you want everything
and life is bitterer

for it)
