Poetry 101 Rehab: Deadline

running out of time.

quick, follow these
guidelines.
complete these tasks,
soon.

(snapshot: another year
passed
what have you done?)

here, you haven’t done
those tasks.
that’s okay, here are
new ones.

(do them, you’re not
getting any
younger)

hurry.
go, get started
before the idea is
snatched up.

(look! it’s gone.
you forgot, you didn’t
reach the goal)

too old now
to be a prodigy.
you’re just average.

(how will you stand out
now?)

more goals,
do something, quick.
are you lagging behind
now? – or still?

(make the leap,
get started)

and get gone.

  1. I love this and the repetitive structure that suggests we never meet deadlines, there is always another to confront us, is very clever! Thank you for contributing to the rehab clinic once more!

    1. Thanks! This one is slightly based in truth – for ages I felt I was missing out on Doing Important Things in the world while everyone darted off to their next goal.

Also, your idea that we never really meet our deadlines – I like that. Reminds me a bit of work today.

As ever, the rehab clinic is a pleasure 🙂 Thanks for hosting it.
