I was initially going to say I expected to have a workable novel draft by the end of the year but I’m scaling that down to a draft. One that I want to publish.
Instead I’m keeping my expectations for myself slightly less ambitious. I intend to invent at least two new cupcake recipes, maybe something new for cookies or brownies. This is my Fun Goal, which I created because I like baking a lot.
My Serious Goal, therefore, is to keep improving my writing. To keep focusing on dialogue, written in prose style instead of a play format like I did with yesterday’s Daily Prompt. To better my short stories and blog daily, with some piece of writing, be it creative, day-to-day or Daily Prompt responses.
I do believe that expecting something can be a barrier. In months gone by I expected to blog daily, but didn’t. There’s been whole gaps of time which are blank, blog-less. So… from this I’ve learned that I need to train myself to write, to refer to a prompt or scratch out a poem while lurking at the bus stop.
To not meet these goals will be disappointing, and a motivation to work much harder.
